

Zink, Dorothy Buckley Elliot (Covert)passed away on August 14, 2012 in her 100th year at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home. Born in 1912 in Dartmouth she was the daughter of the late Roy Kenneth and Inez Pearson Elliot.
Dorothy attended Hawthorne and Greenvale High School in Dartmouth, then the Halifax Academy and Miss McLaughlin’s Business School. At five years of age she was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. Prior to marriage she was employed at the Royal Bank of Canada (main branch) in Halifax for eight years. Dorothy was a member of the Neighbourhood Knitting Club which started during World War II to knit socks scarves, etc., for the servicemen overseas. After the war they continued with the club, but knit and sewed for their children and grandchildren for over forty years. She was a former Regent of the Robin Hood Chapter I.O.D.E., past treasurer of the former Dartmouth Museum Society, past member of the board of the V.O.N., former volunteer at the Nova Scotia Hospital, member of the Dartmouth Historical Association as well as the Elliot Clan Society. She was interested in local activities, both historical and political and she also enjoyed playing bridge. Dorothy travelled to Toronto and the USA to be with family for many summers. For over 30 years she spent Christmas with her daughter and family in Ontario. Dorothy was a resident of the Dartmouth Berkeley Senior Residence for eight years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Judith Louise (Kenneth) Roach; granddaughter, Diane Louise (Brent) Robinson, Maryland, USA; grandson Brian Stephen (Michele) Roach, Aurora ON; great grandchildren, Bryan, Kevin, Kristen, Matthew and Amanda; sisters, Margaret (Donald) Creighton, West Vancouver and Joyce Earle, Dartmouth; sister-in-law M.L. (Molly) Covert, Halifax; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert Laird Borden Covert and Frank Burton Zink; sisters, E. Gertrude Elliot and Lois K. Richards.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial reception will be held 11am on Friday August 24, 2012 in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. A private family burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Berkeley, Dartmouth where Dorothy lived for eight years and a special thanks to St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, 6th Floor where she spent her final years.
