

Ernest Harold Fisher, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Dartmouth on Saturday, February 4th, 2017. Born in Halifax in 1931, he was the son of the late Harold and Myrtle (King) Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Hopkins) Fisher; his four children: Brian (Bonnie), David (Beverley), Bruce (Michelle) and Patricia (Ron Mombourquette); five grandchildren: Wesley, Mitch, Warren, Marlow, Lila; and his brother Eric. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Victor and his stepmother, Gloria (Benjamin) Fisher.
Ernest grew up and lived in Dartmouth. He spent two years as a pilot in the RCAF before joining Beneficial Finance. From 1967 until his retirement in 1996 he was the Director of Administration and Finance for the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia. In 1993 he was awarded the Anglican Award of Merit for outstanding contribution to the life and work of the Church. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and was devoted to his wife, family, the church and his community. He was also a man of many interests which he shared enthusiastically with others. He loved photography; collected rocks with a passion; and spent countless hours nurturing his garden and observing nature. Ernest was a minor hockey coach and a leader in the scout movement. He helped organize the first scout troop in Westphal. He served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth and on the Board of Governors for the University of King’s College. In latter years he traveled and explored frequently. Ernest lived a long, exceptional life and touched many people. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Visitation is on Thursday February 9th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth. The service is Friday February 10th 10:30am at Christ Church, Dundas Street, Dartmouth with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Anglican Foundation; Heart and Stroke; Diabetes; or, a charity of your choice.
