Helen Sonja Malle

On May 25th, 2025, Helen Sonja Malle (nee Vaagen) passed away peacefully in Halifax, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 73. Helen was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and was the first of two daughters born to Karl and Monica Vaagen.

Helen was first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother to a family she loved deeply. Helen's desire to help others became her focus and led her to become a school teacher. She taught at various schools throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality and retired as an administrator. She had a very strong connection to English Literature and linguistics. These were passed onto her students, daughters, and grandchildren. Helen loved to travel with her husband and together they travelled the globe and visited family and friends.

Helen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Herbert, along with her two daughters Sonja and Stacy, and four grandchildren; her elder daughter in Cole Harbour, Sonja, her husband John and their son Orin and daughter Zita; Stacy in Sweden, her husband Ulf and their sons Karl and Viktor. She is also survived by her sister Marie.
