Ian Frank MacConnachie

– 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Dr. John and Floss MacConnachie. He was predeceased by the love of his life and best friend, Janet Louise MacConnachie (Teasdale) with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. Ian will be truly missed as he was a devoted husband, loving father, adoring Grandad, and beloved brother. His humour, generosity, and loyalty defined his character. Ian was a graduate of Dalhousie Law School. After graduation, Ian enjoyed a varied career including time as a lawyer with the Nova Scotia Housing Commission, General Manager at Citadel Motors, Dealer at Thriftway Auto Sales, and a Sales Manager at Colonial Honda. Ian was actively involved in St. James United Church, Dartmouth, serving on several committees over many years and was a faithful member of the church choir. His passions included family, music, politics, cooking, and cars. He enjoyed many wonderful summers and weekend getaways with family and close friends at his cottage on Lowden’s Beach in Pictou. He was a man of strong convictions, unparalleled wit and charm, and unwavering faith. He is survived by his daughter Katie (Michael) Cummings; son David (Katie) MacConnachie; daughter Jane (Mike) Selig; grandchildren Jack and Sophie (Cummings), Matt and Drew (Selig), Ben (MacConnachie); sisters Anne Edmonds and Mary MacConnachie; six nieces and nephews; and his loyal Corgi companion, Charlie. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. James United Church, Seaside FM, or a charity of your choice. Visitation will take place Thursday, November 6 from 4:00-7:00 pm at A.L.Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. A celebration of Ian’s life will be held Friday, November 7 at 11:00 am at St. James United Church, 181 Portland Street, Dartmouth, with a reception to follow at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home.
