Osmond (Fredrick) Ian, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 28, 2014 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ian lived his life with proud determination, strong faith and an unwavering commitment to his family near and far. Ian always considered Newfoundland home, but his career in retail took Ian and his family from one end of the country and back again with stops along the way in Winnipeg, Ontario and the last stop in Nova Scotia. Ian was a devoted employee of Heinz Canada for 25 years and retired in December 2013. Special thanks to Brian Arbique and the Heinz Canada management team for their support when times were tough. ‘The Rock’ always called Ian home and many summer vacations were spent at the family’s cabin in Marysvale, the most magical place on earth. It was here Ian, and his much-loved father Fred, taught Jeremy how to use a shovel, a paint brush and bait a hook. It was here many treasured family memories were created. Ian is predeceased by his father Fred Osmond, who passed away eight weeks ago, his mother and father-in-law Arch and Monica Osmond and brother-in-law Peter Osmond. Leaving to mourn, the absolute love of his life, his wife Peggy and his pride and joy, son Jeremy. His cherished mother Alma Osmond. Sisters Andrea (Doug Walsh), Heather (Bruce Pike), Glenda (Tom Burfitt), brothers-in-law Arch Osmond (Trudy) Frank Osmond (Joyce), sisters-in-law, that Ian always said he loved equally, Cathy (Jim Sheehan), Susan (Neil Smith), Marion (Shawn Whelan). Many treasured nieces and nephews who will miss ‘Uncle Ian’ dearly, cousins and a long list of friends and wonderful neighbours both in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Many health care professionals provided exceptional care for Ian over the last five years including the Dialysis Unit at the Dartmouth General Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit on the 5th floor of the Halifax Infirmary who were outstanding on every level. Ian faced his final days with bravery and courage and for that we are so thankful. Cremation has taken place as per Ian's wishes. Family flowers only please. Donations in Ian’s memory would be appreciated and can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The Osmond family will be greeting friends and family at A. L.
