Iona Marie Drummond Elms

ELMS, Iona Marie went home to be with the Lord at the age of 77 on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Born in Cherry Brook, NS, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alfreda (Sparks) Drummond. Cooking was Iona’s passion and she was known for the delicious meals that she prepared for her family, church and the community. This was how she expressed her love and she will be missed dearly by everyone whom she touched in this way. Iona worked various jobs during her lifetime but her most treasured was doing what she loved best as a cook at the Nova Scotia Home For Coloured Children. She was a dedicated member of Cherry Brook United Baptist Church who loved spending time with her grand-children. She was pre-deceased by her husband James Elms and is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Elms; son, James Elms (Dimitra); very special nephew, Lindsay Drummond (Angela); three grand-daughters, Naomi; LeoNia and MaRia; sister Alyce Thomas (Lee) and brother Gilford Drummond (Elizabeth) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Nola Holloway; Melva Harold and brother, Terrence Drummond. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 25 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 7:00 – 9:00 pm at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St. Funeral and burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 26 at Cherry Brook United Baptist Church, 292 Cherry Brook Rd. with Rev. Wayne Desmond officiating. The family will be abiding with Iona’s wishes of no repast and thanks everyone for understanding.
