Born March 23, 1932 in Milford Haven Bridge N.S. to John Vincent Anthony Fraser Sr. and Florence Laurine (Connolly) Fraser.
Raised in Mulgrave, then upon marrying his sweetheart Anna “Dolly” Decoste in 1955 they moved to Dartmouth.
Prior to moving to Dartmouth, Jack worked on the Scotia ferry from Mulgrave to Cape Breton. With the opening of the Canso Causeway in 1955 the ferry ceased operation and Jack found employment at the Dockyard in Halifax on the tug boat, St. Charles. From there he transferred to the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, retiring at age 60 as Chief Engineer of the hydrographic ship CCGS Maxwell. He travelled often through his career but his heart was always at home!
He was a hard worker and “Jack “of most trades. He and Dolly became landlords when they purchased a triplex on Floral Ave in Dartmouth and Jack kept it in pristine shape.
He preferred a simple life style and donating to charities was important to him.
His favourite past time was playing cribbage and he could count his points quicker than anyone!
Often on hearing something humorous, he may not laugh but would grin, we are missing his Mr. Roper grin!
With failing health, Jack was able to remain home with the loving care of Dolly and son David.
Jack is survived by his wife Dolly, sons Michael “Gerry” (Linda) - Cole Harbour, David - Dartmouth, Brian (Tania) - Hammond, Ontario and daughter Catherine (Carl MacNeil) Petley- Dutch Settlement.
Grandchildren: Jamie, Adam, and Allison Fraser; Michelle and Stefan (Natalie) Petley; MacKenzie and Adley Fraser; Great grandchildren: Levi and Casey Petley; Sisters, Margaret (Almon) Chisholm – Port Hawkesbury, Petra (Melvin “Sonny”) Power – Mulgrave; Brother Francis “Frank” Xavier Fraser – Canso; Brother-in-law Archie Forestall – Mulgrave; and sister in law Patricia Fraser – Port Hawkesbury.
Predeceased by parents; sisters Catherine Anne (in infancy), Rita Forestall, Genevieve “Gewen” Malcolm; brother Robert “Bobby” Fraser; brother-in-law Gerald Malcolm; and son-in-law Kevin Petley.
As per Jack’s wishes there will be no wake or funeral. A family gathering to take place next summer. Cremation has taken place.
We miss you Jackie boy!
