

Hope, John William (Bill), 93 yrs., Dartmouth, Passed away Friday April 4, 2014 at Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, he was a son of the late Issac and Maria (Feilden) Hope. Bill and his older brothers entered WWII at the wars onset. CPO Hope served onboard the HMS Falmouth and HMS Gambia, stationed in the Indian Ocean for the duration of the war. Bill worked mainly with the development and distribution of navigational aids such as radar and sonar during the war. This carried over to a career with The Decca Corp. in London, England after the war, developing navigational aids used to guide many seafarers safely home. In 1953 Bill immigrated to Canada to help expand Decca in North America where he met his loving wife and started their family. Bill continued working with Decca until retirement. He is survived by three sons: Charles, Rothesay, NB; Peter, Cheticamp; Michael, Datmouth; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Wilcox); brothers, Enoch and Frank. Visitation: Thursday 2-4pm & 6-8pm at AL Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Friday at Christ Church, with Rev. Jane Clattenburg officiating and burial Christ Church Cemetery.
