
Balcom, Joyce Pauline – 86, passed away at home Wednesday July 18, 2012. A life long resident of Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Hazel (Boutilier) Balcom. She began her career with Liquid Carbonic In 1944 and worked there until her retirement. Joyce was active in several sports. She was an avid golfer, winning the Brightwood Ladies Championship in 1965 and the Senior Ladies Championship in 1990. Joyce was also a great candlepin bowler, once achieving a 395 triple! She enjoyed lawn bowling, her golf trips to Florida with her friends and was extraordinarily gifted in cross-stitch and knitting. Music and dancing were also passions. She played the piano and led many a sing-a-long entertaining military personnel during WWII. Joyce is survived by her brother Paul (Joan Marie), sisters-in-law Betty and Ramona, nieces Carol (Paul) Rutledge, Debbie (Michael) Wray, Lynn Hamilton, Nancy Balcom and nephews Steve (Nancy), Ken, Ralph, Norman, David, Gary, Randy (Suzanne), Michael (Sandy). She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Edward and Donald and stepmother Carrie. In her later years, her cat Taffy, was a close companion. A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will take place on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Christ Church, Ochterloney Street in Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Steve Laskey officiating. A reception will follow at Brightwood Golf and Country Club. Burial will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
