Laura Mae Cain

Cain, Laura Mae- 74, North Preston passed away Saturday May 21, 2011 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Lake Loon, she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Downey) Sparks. She was a member of the Cherry Brook United Baptist Church and a member of the Saint Thomas United Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary. She received a diploma from Miss Murphy School of Business. She worked as a secretary for the Allen W. Evans School, Nelson Whynder School and Coordinator of the Preston Area Learning Skills Society (P.A.L.S) for 15.5 years. She held many positions such as, but not limited to, secretary for the North Preston Recreation Centre. She organized the North Preston Seniors Group where she served up until her passing as treasurer. Laura also served as a Girl Guide Leader for eleven years and auditor for the Regional Senior Council Zone for three years. She was a very special and loving soul who touched the lives of many people. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

She is survived by her husband Leslie Cain of 49 years; sons Darrell (Sparks), Shawn, Michael and Warren; daughters, Sherry and Jocelyn (Sparks); sisters Mary and Helen (Spencer) Sparks both of Lake Loon; 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; three godchildren Martin Downey, Deborah Sparks and Cecelia Beals; sister in-laws Edith Sparks, North Preston; Florence Sparks, Lake Loon; Helen Sparks, Toronto. She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Darcell Cain; sisters Edna Colley, Bridget Kane, Leota and Kathleen Riley; brothers William, James, Frederick, Stanley, Joseph, John and Donald.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 25th from 7-9pm in Cherry Brook United Baptist Church, where funeral service will take place on Thursday May 26th at 1pm. Rev. Wayne Desmond officiating. Burial will take in place in the church cemetery.
