WOODS, Lena Pearl - 90, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2020, in Bissett Court nursing home, where she resided for the past two months. She was born and raised in Dartmouth, NS and was the daughter of the late James and Aileen (Spears) Cleary. Lena worked at Moir’s Chocolate Factory before dedicating her time to being a mother. She married her late husband, Oliver, in 1951, and lived in their home on Portland Street since it was purchased in 1956. She loved to cook and bake, especially her sought-after carrot cake. She downhill skied, water skied, was involved with her church, and loved long drives with family or friends. Lena was keen to take skills and crafts classes, like sewing, cake decorating, ceramics, and many more. She made most of her own and her children’s clothes until they wouldn’t wear them anymore. Later, she took typing and bookkeeping which she used to help Oliver run his printing business. Her most favorite class was learning the game of Bridge. She studied hard, loving every minute of it, playing in bridge clubs and with friends as often as she could. Lena took great care of her health, with an emphasis on holistic, natural medicine. For that, she enjoyed a long healthy life, and was even tobogganing and swimming into her 80’s. She was an unconditionally loving and forgiving mother. Known as Nana to her grandchildren, they meant the world to her and she showed it in all the ways she possibly could. She always made time for family and friends, especially in Chezzetcook and Porters Lake. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Lesa Woods and Paula (Wayne) DeCoste; son, Darren; adored grandchildren, Joshua and Morgan, and stepgrandson, Devon; sisters, Joyce and Shirley; brothers, Ernest and James; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Oliver Woods in 2008; and sisters, May and Glenda. A visitation will be held on Sunday 1:00-4:00 at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Portland St., and a committal service, officiated by Rev. Edwin Ebsary, on Monday 2:00 in the garden at Christ Church where both Lena and Oliver were baptised, confirmed and married. E-mail condolences to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
