Bacon, Margaret Helen – 86, Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday August 29th. Margaret was born Margaret Brown on December 28, 1923 in Aberdeenshire Scotland to William and Helen Brown. She was the older of two siblings Isobell and Bill. She earned a BSc from Marshall College in Aberdeen and was employed as a chemist in Scotland before following her sister and brother to Nova Scotia in 1958. She worked as a chemist at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro and the Nova Scotia Research Foundation in Dartmouth, where she met her future husband, Earnest Bacon. They married in 1969. Sometime after her retirement and her husband’s death Margaret bought a house with her sister Isobell in Bedford where she lived until her death on Sunday. Margaret was an avid reader and writer, maintained an abiding and critical interest in local and national politics, and was a long-time supporter of the QEII Hospital. One of Margaret’s life-long passions and interests was her family here and in Scotland. We all benefitted from her kindness, her wit and humour, and her moral support. She was an important part of a close and loving family and her absence is sorely missed. Margaret was predeceased by her father William, her mother Nell, her brother Bill, and her husband Ernie. She is survived by her sister Isobell and eleven nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday September 4th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, School Street in Dartmouth There will be a visitation with family and friends at the Mattatall Funeral Home in Dartmouth from 7 to 9 pm on Friday September 3rd. The family, and most especially her sister Isobell, would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jerry Myatt, and to the nurses and caregivers from the palliative care unit of the QEII, the VON, and Northwood Home Care. They provided amazing care and comfort to both Margaret and her family during the last few weeks of her life and they are allowed her to be at home where she wanted to be. Donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the QEII Hospital, their Palliative Care Unit, to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice.
