It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margie, our beloved mother, and grandmother. She died peacefully on September 27th, at the age of 73 at the Admiral Long Term Care Centre.
Margie was the only daughter of Filomena (Variano) and John Donald Darroch. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Margie attended George Washington University and worked as a secretary before immigrating to Halifax in the late 1980’s. While in Canada she gave birth to her two children Randall Sheppard and Laura MacEachern, and then met her future husband Blaine D’Entremont to whom she was married from 1995 until his death in 2015.
Margie had a lifelong passion for learning and pursued a Master of Psychology at Dalhousie in the 1990s, and in the early 2000’s she became an English as a Second Language tutor helping other new Canadian immigrants. She struggled with long term health issues but would use her time in good health to bring awareness to the importance of mental health. Margie loved her family dearly and had daily phone calls with her mother, as well as talking to her children as often as she could. She was open minded and attended weekly services at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax and loved speaking with people from all walks of life.
She is survived by her children Randall (Viricka Francis) and Laura (Calum Macleod) and grandchildren Jace Sheppard and Neleya Francis. She was predeceased by her husband Blaine D’Entremont, and brother Paul (Esther Methe).
Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 2pm from A.L.Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, with a reception to follow, interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Admiral Long Term Care Centre for the continued compassion and love they showed her during her time there.
