Clary and Richard, 

I corresponded with Nancy in recent years and it was so nice to connect with her. It may have been 1985 the last time I saw her. She was such a nice person and I do remember stopping by your place to say hi to her and Nimbus. Jason, of course, was in the store lol.

Dear Dickie and Clary: Sending you my sincere condolences. Your mother had such a lust for life! I was so hoping to see her this summer, and  am glad Ruth got a visit in with her last year. Our families go back such a long way now - your parents were always welcoming when we came to Middlefield. Later, Nancy popped up in one of my Master's classes at Acadia, where we shared a love of English Lit., and it was always nice to hear her latest adventures over tea and Mom and Dad's. I remember her as always interested and curious, with a warm heart and a great sense of humour. Sending love and sympathy, Faye

I never had the pleasure of meeting with Mrs. Kempton but I read that she was determined and I can see that in her son Clary. :)

It's always difficult to lose your last parent and I wish for you all fond memories and ones that can provide a giggle or two.

Our sincere condolences to Nancy’s family.  Although we only met Nancy 25 years ago, she quickly became a good friend.  She had such a zest for life and for life long learning.  I have a copy of the church music cd that she created, singing many of the old familiar hymns.  I also have a copy of the book on grammar that she wrote.  What a gifted soul.  During the pandemic she mastered the sending and receiving of emails and watching church services on YouTube.  I will always have the picture in my mind of her singing along with the services with her hymn book in her hands.  Rest in peace dear friend!

I read Nancy's obituary in Saturday's paper and although we had lost touch in the last years, I have such fond memories of our friendship and our many outings together.   What an inspiring person she was and what a great long life she had!

To Nancy’s family, my sincere condolences with her passing. Nancy and our Mother, Sara Cunningham, were students at Normal College and their friendship lasted their lifetime. Before Mom passed in 2010, Nancy and Jason "came all the way" to Valley View Villa, Pictou County; to visit Mom. A few years after that, I came up from the Annapolis Valley, and I met Nancy for the first time at the Inn on the Lake; I felt like I already knew her. I was delighted to take Nancy with me, to enjoy another great visit with my Mom. After Mom passed; Nancy and I became long distance friends. We would have phone chats, she always knew it was me calling. One time, I took Bea Pinch with me to visit Nancy; it was pouring rain and after that I dreaded driving in Dartmouth. Thankfully my fear of that driving; enabled my sister, Barbara to bring me; and she got to meet Nancy (now, Barbara would get me to Nancy’s home). Eventually my other siblings from Pictou County came to Nancy’s also for visits. We were always in awe of your Mom; I loved her so much. Our Birthday’s are six days apart; so today, I picked up a nice card and came home to mail it, hoping that Nancy’s 103rd Birthday would be wonderful. I realize now, Nancy will be having one of her best Birthday’s; she’s with Jason, and I do believe that our parents will also celebrate with her on June 5th.  With much love to Nancy’s family, from Mary (and Eldon) Schofield; and my siblings, Margaret Booth, Jamie, Barbara and Heather Cunningham.

Richard, Clary, and families,  Saddened to read of your Mom’s passing.  She was my grade 8 teacher at the old Greenfield School.  We later connected over calculus from Acadia University and when the new Greenfield School was being built.  Such a caring and amazing person and teacher!  She lived a wonderful and long life and will be missed by all who knew her.  My thoughts are with you all.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Dick, Clary and families on the passing of your dear Mom. Nancy was such an inspiration to my family. She had teaching in her blood and a yearning to learn. Always so kind, thoughtful and generous. Nancy had a way of making you feel special while in her presence even though she had many special people in her life. What a legacy she has left! Thankful that I was able to visit Nancy on Mother’s Day weekend. Nancy will always hold a special place in my heart and am blessed to have known her as a friend!

My deepest condolence and sympathies to the Kempton family. Nancy was my elementary teacher in Greenfield, Queens County. I used to visit their family house often, especially in the winter to play ice hockey with Richard and Clary on the pond.

I am sorry for your lose.  

Nancy was always so very kind to me when we attended St. Andrew's Church on Locks Rd.  When my marriage broke up in 2003, she helped my daughter and I tremendously by allowing us to live with your parents for several months and would not take any payment.  I will never forget her and Jason.

So sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing. She will always be remembered as a person who was born to teach , proven by her many years and many students  who remember her dearly. May her spirit live on in all the lives she touched. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

A much beloved teacher. She taught me English at the school for the blind.  She was loved and respected by all her students. 
My deepest condolences to the family.

I remember Mrs. Kempton very fondly from the time I spent as a student with her at Greenfield School in Grades 4, 5 & 6. My mother who taught P-3 (Mrs Alean Freeman) thought very highly of her as well. Condolences to the family. She made an indelible mark on the lives of so many children in the area fo s many years. A long life well lived.

I met Nancy at a Bible study many years ago. Even in her 90’s her desire to study and do research was an inspiration to me.  When the group ended we continued our friendship with phone calls and the occasional visit.  She would share stories of her life as a child, a young teacher, and her life with Jason, her children and grandchildren.  Her stories were rich and full of humour.  I came away feeling blessed by our time together.   Nancy was a woman of great determination, generosity, and wisdom.  May you find comfort in the knowledge that she is with her Lord and Saviour. I will deeply miss her.

 I’m sending along my sincere condolences with the loss of your beautiful mother. She will always hold a special place in my heart. She was such a fun, loving, smart, funny, independent woman who I looked up to. She was such a role model. Oh how she loved teaching, and how she loved learning. I think she even lost count of how many degrees she had! I’m so fortunate to have had lunch with her just last year when she was 102! I will always have special memories of our time in Middlefield, and the many conversations and encounters in the years that followed. Thinking of you all as you navigate this next part of your lives without her. Hold tight to your beautiful memories. Sending lots of love and hugs.

Nancy was truly a special person. We shared many lively and witty conversations. A very intelligent and knowledgeable lady who I am sure has enriched many lives, mine included. Nancy's faith was unwavering. Rest in peace my friend.

Nancy was a superb teacher and a great colleague. She lived a long and rich life. We are sorry to hear of her passing.

Mrs Kempton was Grade 7 teacher and my very favourite teacher in the school in Greenfield.  Although we only had classes half a day,  I still remember much of what she taught us,  From her I learned to like school.                                                                                                                                                              My condolences to her family on their loss.

The lord has received a good and faithful servant. Nancy, my favorite teacher, will aways be remembered fondly. I had the privilege to know her, on a personal level,  many years later, as her hairdresser. A brilliant women, with the most gracious heart. A long life, lived well. Rest easy, Mrs. Kempton. My heartfelt condolence for the loss of your amazing mother. Mrs Kempton was a special person and a wonderful teacher, who made all subjects interesting and encouraged her pupils to want to know more. I feel honoured to have had lunch with her a few years ago when she was in her mid 90s and she was still auditing courses at Dalhousie University and involved with other organizations. She was a true inspiration. How lucky you all were to have her with you for so long.
