2 Timothy 4:7
It is with deep sorrow, yet with gratitude to God for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Naomie Maanga Lubinda Mutale. Naomie went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2026, at Dartmouth General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Naomie was born on August 6, 1950, in Namwala District, Zambia, to Maria Shimabwasi and Solomon Liwakala Lubinda. She was the fourth of five children.
She began her education at Lubanba and then Shabuluwe Primary Schools from 1959 - 1965. She attended Namwala Secondary School from 1966 - 1968 and graduated as a teacher from David Livingstone Teacher’s Training College, which she attended from 1969 - 1970. She taught for a brief period before relocating from Livingstone to Ndola to pursue secretarial training. Naomie later joined the Zambia State Insurance Corporation (ZSIC) as a Personal Secretary and dedicated many years of faithful service to the organization until her retirement in 1994.
Naomie had a vibrant personality and a deep appreciation for life. She enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, and squash, and loved travelling and maintaining an active lifestyle. Her warmth, elegance, and joyful spirit touched all who knew her.
A devoted Christian, Naomie gave her life to Christ on January 6, 1986. She was an active member of Ndola Baptist Church and later joined People’s Pentecostal Church, where she worked faithfully as a secretary to Bishop Isaiah Chishiba before moving to the United States. While there, she continued serving the Lord wholeheartedly.
Naomie was the beloved wife of Gabriel Mutale, whom she married on June 17, 2006, in Orlando, Florida. Together they shared a life grounded in faith, love, prayer, and service to others. When she relocated to Canada, Naomi was warmly welcomed at Victoria Road United Baptist Church.
They later joined New Beginnings Ministries, where she served as a passionate intercessor, counsellor, discipleship worker, prayer warrior, and vibrant evangelist. Her prayers, encouragement, and spiritual guidance touched many lives within the Church and beyond.
Naomi worked in the home care field for many years. She was also involved in community initiatives, especially in the Zambia Nova Scotia Association (ZamNova), where she was a mentor to many.
During her illness, Naomi demonstrated remarkable strength, faith, and courage, and continued to minister to others. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we are comforted in the assurance that she is now resting in the presence of the Lord, whom she loved and served faithfully. She has now heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
Naomi is survived by her beloved husband, Gabriel Mutale; her sisters, Jenny Lubinda Muhwanga and Joyce Lubinda; her two sons, Harry Mwale (Angela) and Manfred Mwale (Goldar); her cherished grandchildren Naomi, Rachel, Pendo, and Rehema, and great grandchildren, Azria and Chimwemwe; Gabriel’s children Brian Mutale (Roberta), Edla Kasonkamona (Sonkwe), Samuel-Joshua Mutale, and families; and many nephews and nieces. Naomi will be remembered by many spiritual children, mentees, lifelong friends, churchmates, and colleagues. Naomi was predeceased by her parents, her sister Nelly Lubinda, her brother Henry Lubinda, and her grandchild Terry Mwale.
The Mutale, Lubinda, and Mwale families would like to thank Naomi’s Doctors, and the medical teams at the Victoria General Hospital and Dartmouth General Hospital for their thoughtful and professional care during the period of her illness. Thank you also to family, friends, her Pastor, and the Church family at New Beginnings Ministries for all the love and support.
