Born in Dartmouth on August 24th, 1948, son of the late Pius and Loretta Lavigne (LeCouter). Proud father of Michael (Candice) Lavigne of Oakfield, NS and Danielle (Dan) Gillan of Stratford, PEI. “Grandpa Paul” to Maelle, Lachlan and Nolan Gillan and Emma and Maya Lavigne. Survived by his former wife Mary McCaughey of Clyde River, PEI. Brother of Richard LeCouter (Bathurst, NB) and the late Pauline Plank. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Paul possessed a highly inquisitive mind and found great pleasure in anything mechanical in nature. A lover of various genres of music, over the years he worked in a number of industries including long-haul trucking, as ship’s crew at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, even owning his own garage (Paul’s Texaco) during his time in PEI. A great lover of cars and driving, he was an accomplished backseat driver, especially in his later years.
Paul’s family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful team at Comforting Companions Care Providers, the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital and Woodside Medical Clinic, as well as his many caring friends and neighbours who provided him with tremendous friendship, support and comfort.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Jays Care Foundation” which is the charitable arm of Paul’s favorite MLB team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
A service to celebrate Paul's life will be held on Sunday, September 8 at 2pm from A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth.
