

MATTHEWS, Paula Mildred – 64 of Eastern Passage.It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Paula on August 8th, in the Victoria General hospital Q E II site surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family after a year long battle with cancer. She fought with dignity and incredible strength. Paula was born on August 17, 1956 in Halifax and was the daughter of Olive and the late Vincent (Jack) Dauphinee, She is survived by her dedicated husband Billy, whom she shared a love story of 50 years, her sister Debbie (Bruce), brother John (Sherry), brother-in-law Normie (Debbie), sister-in-law Sherry (Jimmy) and mother-in-law Jean. She was predeceased by her father and father-in-law, Norman, brother-in-law, Russell and great niece, Elizabeth. Paula grew up in Eastern Passage and at the age of 15 met her true love Billy. Paula worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 35 years. She was a loyal employee with a strong work ethic and was a cherished colleague. She was an amazing aunt who was blessed with many nieces and nephews who thought the world of her kindness; Jill (Steve), Jared (Kim), Josh (Leah), Lee (Christina), Brad (Sara), Jimmy (Melissa), Jenn (Paul), Mikey, Ryan (Ashley) & Amy (Anthony). She was also very proud of her special great nieces and nephews; Kara, Colin, Addison, Blake, Jonah, Chloe, Dylan, Destiny, London, Alexis, Katie, Carson, Allie, Tucker, Maisie, Savannah & Eli. Paula had the most beautiful smile and a kind, giving heart. She was a classy lady, a great listener and she was known for following the rules. She made the world a better place. You’d never meet a better person. She loved her family and friends immensely. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She was a very organized person and had a knack for decorating. Paula enjoyed swimming in her pool with Billy and traveling to Florida with him each winter where they met family and friends, visited the beach, and she always managed to find the best deals while shopping. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday August 14 in St. Peter’s Anglican Church by invitation only due to Covid restrictions. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team for their compassion and all of the support from family and friends. Family flowers only.
