

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Shelley Andrews; and her dearly loved grandsons, Conner and Tyler Andrews, all of Sault Ste Marie, ON. She is also survived by her two sister-in-laws, Hilda and Betty Adams and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Harold; her sisters, Verna Ward (Joe), Marjorie Brown (Lawson) and Thelma Brayley (Ralston); and her brother, Clayton Gilbert (Betty).
Queenies' warm and inviting personality made you always feel welcome in her home, where she was always ready to serve you a cup of tea and one of her famous tea biscuits. Following her high school graduation, she attended the Nova Scotia Teachers Normal College in Truro. She taught her first year in Lower Five Islands, and then moved to Dartmouth where she would continue to teach for another 34 years. She continued her education during that time, spending two summers in the United Kingdom, observing their educational system in the Lake District and the Inner City Schools, under the direction of Dr. Jane Norman and Dr. Ruth Bakewell, from the Nova Scotia Teachers Normal College.
After her retirement in 1987, she and Harold were active members of the Stardusters Square Dancing club, where they enjoyed many years of fund and friendship. She and Harold also travelled extensively during their retirement years. Then it was on to learning to play bridge, where she enjoyed many afternoons with friends.
Queenie was a member of the Woodlawn United Church and their Naomi UCW unit. Previously, she was also a member of Stairs Memorial United Church and their Mary Bruce UCW unit.
Following cremation, there will be a celebration of her life on Friday, June 16th, at 1 p.m. in Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, with Reverend Dale Skinner presiding. A short reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 20th, at 1 p.m. in Southampton Cemetery, Southampton. Donations in memory of Queenie may be made to the Woodlawn United Church music department, the Southampton Cemetery fun or a charity of your choice
