

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Norman Conrad, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, at the age of 94, on January 4th, just one month shy of his 95th birthday, after a very brief illness. Born in Rose Bay, NS on February 14, 1930, he was the oldest son of the late Norman and Pearl (Ritcey) Conrad.
Bob enjoyed his retirement after a long career with CBC Regional Sales in Halifax. After retirement, he worked at the Dartmouth Curling Club in ice maintenance until 1992. He was an active member and enjoyed several years of competitive curling, winning a Senior Mixed Provincial Championship. For 12 years Bob and late wife, Joan (Clarke) were snowbirds, establishing a winter home in Florida, travelling and making new friends.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Debra Conrad, Halifax, Wendy Slaunwhite (Daniel), Cole Harbour and son Steven Conrad, Toronto; grandchildren, Stephanie Jackson (Alex), Jennifer Newcombe (Travis), Catherine Wiseman (Colin), Ryan Conrad (Kyra) and Rachel Conrad; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Olivia Newcombe, Noah Wiseman and Vera Jackson; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Conrad, Sandra Condy (Donald) and Angela Clarke as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his devoted wife of 64 years, Joan (Clarke); sister, Irene Falkenham (Gerald); brother, David Conrad; nephew, Doug Falkenham; brother-in-law, William Clarke Jr. and sister-in-law, Carole Buchanan(Bernie).
Burial at St. John’s Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital during Dad’s brief illness. Special thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Berkeley, Dartmouth, where Dad enjoyed the last 2 years.
Dad’s easygoing and happy nature will be truly missed and always remembered.
