

It is with deepest sadness to announce the loss of a wonderful husband, and father, Rod Harry Ritchie on October 19th, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Charles and Elsie Ritchie, Rod was raised at the “Old Piggery Farm” on Gaston Road. At a young age Rod, along with his parents, moved to the family farm in Middle Musquodoboit, and later back to Dartmouth. From age 15, up until 1972 Rod worked with his father Charles in the family trucking business. He then took over the family business where he continued to work for 39 years until retirement. Rod then decided to return to work at Scotia Recycling, where he worked for the past six years. He was an avid bowler for 20 years and bowled on various city leagues. Rod’s seasonal pastimes were hunting and fishing with buddies, as well as gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Jackson), daughter Michelle, and the center of his life Grandson, Nathan, “Natie,” siblings, Mildred DeMont (Clavin), Betty Releader (Floyd), Hilda Cole (Bob), Bertha Graham (Harry), June Jackson (Ricky), David (Elaine); sisters in law, Bula, Gloria, Marg and Thelma; brother in law, Wayne; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Kenny , Raymond, Roy, Murray (Mildred), Gerald, Ronnie (Audrey) and Eric (Ann); sisters Doris Ralph (Clayton) and Mary Purdy. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
