OUTHOUSE, Rosena Ellen. It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, relative, and friend, Rosena Ellen Outhouse, on November 23, 2010, in hospital. Rosena with her warm smile and outgoing personality was born on April 26, 1915, in Tiverton, Digby County, N.S., and was the second daughter of Rosa Elliott (Smith) and Gorham Elliott, Senior. Rosena worked at a young age in her family’s grocery business, Gorham D. Elliott’s store, Tiverton, and then attended the Maritime Business College, Halifax. After college, she was quickly employed as a secretary in the Halifax area, and later at Calkin’s Hardware in Kentville, during World War II. After the war, she returned to Tiverton and married her childhood sweetheart, Chester. She worked in the E.C. Outhouse grocery store, post office, and managed the Wooden Keg canteen in Tiverton. She retired and moved to Digby where she resided until 1997. She then relocated to the Halifax area. She loved to paint pictures, play musical instruments, and sing songs as part of the Tivertonians. Later, she enjoyed attending church and social gatherings at the Lion’s Senior’s Club in Eastern Passage, the Findlay Senior’s Centre, the Social Tea group at the First Baptist Church, Dartmouth, the Elliott Clan, and the Outhouse Family Historical Society. She was predeceased by her son, Elbridge Chester Outhouse, her husband, Chester Milton Outhouse, her sisters, Louise Sheppard (Elliott) and Annabel Outhouse (Elliott); her brothers, Louis Elliott, Aubrey Elliott, and Gorham Elliott, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn, her grand children, Russell (Laura), Krista (Thomas), Randall (Joanne), and Christopher (Pam), and great-grandchildren Courtney, Brooke-Lynn, Raine, Cole, and Julian, and nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Jody Johnson will be officiating. A graveside service will also be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Tiverton, around 4 p.m. on the same day.
