Dear Family,

It is with great sadness that I came upon the passing announcement of Shane. Although you do not know me, my daughter was blessed with his guidance while at 4- south and the adolescent center for treatment IWK. Shane and my daughter shared togther their spiritual commitments and appreciation for the blessing of life. As a mother, Shane and I spent many times discussing the trials of the mental health system, singing together and laughing with Karaoke during inpatient stays with the patients, and just sharing time together with my daughter. My daughter and I will never forget the special times this larger than life man shared with us during our own challenging trails of life.May God Bless you all, and keep forever the beauty of Shane's life blessing on earth in your hearts.

It is with shock and sadness that I send my deepest condolences to the MacDonald family. I only heard the news recently. I still remember Shane when we started grade 10 together. Through to years I ran into him periodically and he always had a way of making you feel as if you just talked the days before. He was a great person to all that knew him.

Family and friends of Shane, we wish you comfort during this very difficult time. He will be remembered fondly by us both.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Shane when we worked at the IWK Childrens Hospital. We spent lots of night shifts sharing many things we had in common, the most inportant being our faith in the Love of Christ and His promise of salvation.

I would like to tell you all about the first time I met Shane. I had just finished my last year of High School Football and had been recruited to play University.  My brother, Jeff and Shane worked together at Alexander's Pub.  Jeff told me that Shane is going to bury me on the football field if I go to SMU the following season.  I had heard that type of verbiage before and thought nothing of it and I had never met Shane before.  About a week later I went down to Alexander's to visit my brother.  I had my back to the front door and my brother said to me, "here's Shane".  I turned around to look at him and my nose hit him in the chest.  I had to take two steps back just to look at him. His hand wrapped around mine twice as he shook my hand while at the same time giving me one of his devious smiles and devilish laugh.  It wasn't until a couple of years later that he told me he was just kidding around with me.  
Shane always was fun to be around, laugh with and we had interesting conversatiions.  I later worked with Shane at the IWK and it was good to see when I would be working with him on a shift.
Every time I saw Shane and no matter what was going on, he always had time for my parents and asked about them frequently.  He will be missed and he was a special person.

I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear this news.Shane was a great man and always made me laugh and his laugh was certainly contagious. I am sorry for your loss and please except my whole hearted condonences.

I will remember Shane for being a big teddy bear who always had a shoulder to cry on and ear to lilt my sorrows to in my younger years. His passing has me shocked and saddened, but knowing he's with Jesus gives me peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
