This world lost a beautiful spirit with the passing of our mother Theresa (Terry) Melanson at the age of 95. Born in 1928 and raised in Montreal, Terry loved her family dearly. When Terry was 14, she became “mom” to her four younger siblings upon the death of their mother.
Terry was proud of her life as a young independent woman, working for Bell Telephone in Montreal. She enjoyed swimming, tennis, skiing, and summers in the Laurentian mountains.
In 1952 she married, Lew, the love of her life, becoming an Airforce wife and then a mom to four children of her own. Terry’s married life revolved around her family and many close friends.
Terry found her true home in Nova Scotia and lived in Cape Breton, Barrington, Amherst, New Glasgow, East Uniacke, Bedford, and Dartmouth (Parkland). Mom and Dad explored much more of Nova Scotia while camping and prospecting together.
Terry loved music, square and line dancing, reading, and games. She was a voracious crossword puzzle player to which she credited her sharp mind even at age 95.
Our mom's most endearing quality was her unwavering optimism and her innate ability to see good in everyone and everything. She had an ever-present smile for everyone and embraced life with all the challenges it presented her. She refused to get old and never did.
Terry’s life legacy is in her four children: Lynda, Lorrie (Dwight), Eric (Melinda), and Art (Shelley). In her seven grandchildren: Jessica (Dillon), Kelsey, Ryan (Jessica), Janine (Ryan), Kelly (Ryan), Luke (Saxon) and Leigh. And in her eight great grandchildren: Ethan, Evan, Parker, Maisy, Gus, Leon, with two on the way! She passionately loved each and every one.
She is survived by her brothers Nick (Darlene) and Marc Lussier, as well as her sister in-law Micheline, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Lew, her daughter Lorrie, and siblings Doris and Mike.
A celebration of life will be held January 6th, 2024, between 1pm and 4pm at 45 Howe Ave, Fall River, Nova Scotia, B2T 1H7. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
