William Joseph McBride

It is with great sadness that the family of William Joseph Charles McBride, age 92, of Dartmouth, announce his sudden passing on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Born in Ottawa on March 21, 1934 and raised in Cornwall, ON Bill joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 16 serving 27 years and reaching the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class as a Sonar Operator.

Bill’s time with the RCN included service as a member onboard HMCS Haida in Korea. Post naval service Bill entered real estate with multiple companies receiving multiple awards leading to the establishment of his own company Select Reality. Through real estate Bill acquired many properties of which he was a landlord for many years. Bill enjoyed regular gatherings with his Tim Horton’s crowd and was involved in local politics as well as philanthropic activities in Dartmouth. Bill supported the Dartmouth Sportsplex as a member of the board of directors and has donated towards the Trans Canada National Trail amongst other initiatives.

Bill is survived by his son, David (Sherry); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cherie), Andrew (Staci) and Allison (Anas). He was a proud great-grandfather to Kalie, Rebecca, Easton, Safiyah and Omar. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; twin sons, Timothy and Thomas and his daughter, Katherine.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, April 6 at 1pm from A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a future date.
