Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 5- 7 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Private graveside services will be held. Her final resting place will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Alice was born September 13, 1940 in Davenport, the daughter of Charles H. and Erma M (Grapengater) Hawkins. She married Billy Lee Ashley on September 20, 1958 in Davenport. He passed away on December 22, 1985.
She had worked for over 35 years as a timekeeper for the Rock Island Arsenal prior to her retirement in 2019. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, movies, tv and playing slots at the casino.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Charles and Doug Ashley, Davenport, Ellen (Michael) Harrison, Davenport and Frank Ashley, Fort Meyers, FL; grandchildren: Zachery, Sagen and Kayla; step-granddaughter, Ashley (Sean), brother Charles “Hank” Hawkins Jr, Davenport and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alice, was preceded in death by sons: Kenneth, Larry and Jerry and sisters: LaVerne Horton, Marilyn Boswell and Jacqueline Neese.
