Alta M. Buennig

She was born November 21, 1918 at the home of her maternal grandparents in rural Atalissa, IA, the eldest of three children of Milton J. and Sarah Jane (Collison) House. Alta attended Moscow Grade School and was a 1936 graduate of Wilton Junction High School. After her graduation form high school, Alta entered Nurse’s Training School at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The following year she attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. She then taught in a one-room rural school in Cedar County, Iowa until her marriage to William J. Buennig on September 21, 1940 in Davenport, IA. They had three children: William Jr., Robert and Peggy.

Alta was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She is survived by her children: Robert L. (Dee Anne) Buennig, Bowling Green, OH and Peggy A. DeWitte, Davenport; grandchildren: Keith (Susie) Buennig and son, Jim, Geneseo, IL; David (Mel) Buennig, Davenport; Tim Swingle, Burlington, IA and sisters, Opal Gruemmer, Durant, IA and Ruby Webb, Newell, WV.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. “Bill” Buennig, Sr. in October 1997; son, William J Buennig, Jr in May 1993; daughter-in-law, Barb Buennig in May 2009 and infant granddaughter, Monica Mae Buennig in November 1975.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Services will be Saturday at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Travis Fisher officiating.
