Grandma Carlin,
We have so any wonderful memories we were fortunate enough to have shared with you.  From the times Tom and I drove out to pick you up in Iowa, to the visits here in Michigan.  You were always so kind and always had your sense of humor!!  I am so thankful we got to celebrate your 100th Birthday with you...wow, what an accomplishment!!  We will always have an ache in our heart for you, but we know you are in a better place now.  May you rest in peace.

What a blessing my childhood was because of my Dear Aunt Annette, who lived out the back door, down the alley and across the street from me.  Of course, I had to walk through her yard and check on the tomatoes as I approached the back door.  A footstep on the porch was almost always followed with "Hi Chrissie" in a smiling voice.  Other times, I would go inside and holler up the steps, down the bsmt or go to the front porch.  She was always home!!!!
Annette always had gray hair, usually had to get her teeth before we talked and was never too busy to play.  Sometimes she took me downtown with her on Fridays or to the Christiansen family picnics.  In those days, these events were quite an adventure!  
In the summer time, we would sit on the front porch and play cards in the evenings.  This usually followed a walk around the neighborhood to look at everyones flowers.  She taught me too "look for the flowers" and their names.  I still enjoy doing this.
One could set their calendar by her activities.  If you saw her going to the mailbox with some cards held together by a rubber band, you knew it was the day after Thanksgiving.  She ALWAYS mailed her Christmas cards on that day.
My Aunt showed me that I was important to her.  I don't recall hearing I love you, or too many hugs; but to me it felt like I was the only kid in the world when I was with her.  
As I grew up, Annette and I continued to be close.  Not always physically, but always in our hearts.  Even though her grandkids came, I knew that they didn't take my place, she just made another place for them,  Her heart was very big!
Annette was my other mother.  When my little brother came, my own Mom was very busy.  Annette filled in the gaps.
In 2010, almost five months apart, my mother and my other mother (Annette) went to heaven.  I am sure they are sitting on a porch somewhere up there, having a cigarette (although they quit many years ago) and talking about the good old days.  Both of them have good legs and take walks all over, visiting the people they used to know.  I am happy for them!

According to me, the most important tribute that anyone could give, is that this person "Annette was very important in the life of a child.  Annette was very important in the lives of many children.

Thank You to her children and grandchildren for sharing her with me.  She will always be in our hearts.

I could not have asked for a more wonderful caring Grandma, you have given me so many wonderful memories to cherish forever! Coming to your house on Farnam St.was the best! Christmas there was always so much fun which included your great cooking, family and of course the favorite doll that I asked for that year you made sure you got it for me, and I can't forget all the stylish barbie doll clothes you made, my barbies were the best dressed dolls ever! I can still hear your laugh at times and it brings me joy, you truly were a special lady and touched the lives of so many.I'm so happy that I got to be there to celebrate your 100th birthday, you looked beautiful! Thanks for everything Grandma!! Rest in peace.

To My Deaest Mom,
I miss you greatly but it is so comforting to know that you are at your final resting place which means  peace and happiness. You left me with many wonderful memories that I will always cherish. I am so grateful that you were with us here in Mi these last few years. What a blessing that was for all of us who live here in MI. You were a good Mom and I feel fortunuate to have had you for 64 years. God must have thought you pretty special to have you on this earth for so long. I believe you touched the lives of many and all of those that are left behind will always remember, appreciate, and miss you. Much love to you from myself and all my family.

Sincerest sympathy to the Carlin family. Born in 1939, I grew up at 2422 Farnam and lived there with my sister until I married in 1958. I remember your family and our neighborhood. Your family, as I remember, lived between Mrs. Bennet and her daughter and family (Sheltons) to the south and Mr. & Mrs. Friedholdt who lived to the north...on the east side of the street. This was a wonderful neighborhood with very nice neighbors. When I read the 2409 Farnam address, I immediatly felt taken back in time.  At 101 years, God is good to call her home to be with Him...Marcia Oliver Koehler, Davenport.

I have many fond memories of Aunt Sis.  The house on Farnam Street was a childhood anchor for me - it has changed little since then.  Aunt Sis was always there and she was very good at whatever she did - cooking, gardening, or coming up with fun activities for us to do.  One of my most memorable childhood experiences was the carnivals we had in the yard. I remember the smell of the soap in the bathroom, keeping cool with fans in the summertime, the plastic on the living room furniture. Thank you, Aunt Sis for the good memories. You touched so many lives, and will be greatly missed.  May you rest in peace.

Best Mother-in law in the world.  Never a harsh word.  She will surely be missed.

My sincerest sympathy to you and your family.  Your mom was such a nice, warm lady.  I was at her home in Iowa twice and enjoyed the visit both times, and of course I'll never forget the game of spoons Annette (91), Billy and I played while we were all down on the floor.  Your mom was pretty agile even at 91.

I am sorry about the loss of your Grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was saddened to hear of Annettes passing.She lived a very long and happy life. She loved her family very much and spoke of them often.I was thinking of her today and decided to drive by her old home on Farnam Street just to see if I could see her out in her yard where she loved to be, racking and pulling weeds.I truly felt I could see her and feel her out there, racking away, not down on her knees as she did in her later years but up, on her feet and legs, happy, healthy and smiling. God bless you, Annette and God bless your family.
