

Arline V. Martin, 92, of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Bettendorf Community Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Brain Injury Association of Iowa, Hospice Compassus, or the Scott County Humane Society in remembrance of her 3 most beautiful Siamese cats. Online condolences and tributes may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Arline was born on July 1, 1919 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughterof Arnold and Vera (Hahn) Frye. Arline was a graduate of Davenport High School in 1936. She was employed at the International Harvester Co. (Farmall office) in the Payroll Dept. She also worked at Hickey Bros. Cigar Store’s office for 3 years. She married Henry F. Hartz, Jr. on January 27, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and lived in Cedar Rapids, IA for 2 years, where she was employed in the office of Wilson Meat Packing Co., and later for a number of Auditors part time. They returned to Davenport in 1943, where they raised their two children. After their divorce, she worked at Wonder Bread office (Continental Baking Co.) for 24 ½ years where she received an achievement Award. She retired August 1, 1981. Henry died on November 7, 1998. Arline married John F. Martin, of Davenport on September 1, 1985 in Las Vegas and continued living in Davenport. He died November 19th, 2000. Arline was president of the Davenport Jaycettes in the 50’s and was awarded a life-time membership at that time. She was also Treasurer for the Garfield School P.T.A. She modeled for a number of Jaycette Style Shows. Arline started her volunteering career in 1983 at the Davenport Medical Center’s Corner Gift Shop. She was manager from 1991 until 2002, then know as Trinity Medical Center North. As a result of her dedication and hard work the hospital was able to benefit from purchases of much needed equipment. She was the buyer, did all of the ordering and pricing, arrangements and bookkeeping in addition to being Treasurer for 3 years. Her 2nd Award was presented in 1991 for Volunteer Exemplary Services; her 3rd and 4th Awards were presented in 1992- Certificate of Achievement and Certificate of Outstanding Service; in 1994 she was Volunteer of the Year. Arline was one of the top three volunteers to receive an Award every year for volunteering 50 or more hours per month until 2002. Arline was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Plus 60, and the German-American Pioneer of Scott County, Iowa, until the death of her husband, John. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. and George E. Johnson of Davenport and son and daughter-in-law, Steve H. and Connie Hartz, Blue Grass. Five grandchildren, Harry Graham Jr., Davenport, Quinton Graham, Bettendorf, Laura (Hartz) and husband Troy Welvaert, Ellen (Hartz) and husband Justin Jacques, both of Davenport, Colleen and husband Doug Dittmar, Blue Grass, Iowa. There are six Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild. She is survived by a sister Janice and her husband Don Schroeder, Davenport, sister-in-law Betty Frye of Belleair Bluffs, FL, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Bernard and his wife Helen Frye and brother Calvin Frye and her parents. Arline was very devoted to her entire family and had a busy wonderful life. Arline also leaves her beautiful, beloved companion cat, “Charlene”. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Arline received from Doctor Jaegle, the Hospice Compassus group, and her temporary homes in Petersen Commons, and the Bettendorf Heath Care Center.
