AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Barbara L. Itken

10 septembre 1950 – 23 septembre 2024
Avis de décès de Barbara L. Itken
AUX SOINS DE

Weerts Funeral Home

Barbara ‘Barb’ L. Itken, 74 years old, passed away comfortably with her family at her side on September 23, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Per her wishes cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no funeral services. Barb was born in Fulton, IL on September 10, 1950. She graduated Fulton High School in 1968. She met the love of her life, Dave, when they both worked at the General Electric Plant in Morrison, IL. Barb and Dave got married on April 25, 1975, in Fulton, IL. They welcomed their son, Daniel in 1986, in Davenport, IA.

Barb enjoyed sewing, gardening, the Hallmark channel, taking long road trips with Dave on their motorcycle, going on girls’ trips with her childhood best friend Bonnie to California, Florida and the Bahamas. Barb’s favorite place to travel was to Disney World with her family and meeting up with friends at Harlan’s restaurant. Barb’s greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She never missed a game, recital or concert for her son or grandchildren. She especially loved watching her granddaughter Kate dance in recitals and competitions. Barb had a huge heart for her family and any animal she saw. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she loved to spoil her grandchildren and dogs.

The best quote to describe Barb is ‘Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts’.

Those left to continue Barb’s memory include her son, Daniel (Michelle) Itken, grandchildren, Jonathan, and Kate Itken, all of LeClaire, Iowa. Childhood friend, Bonnie Simon, brother Larry (Florence) Shipma, all of Fulton, IL. Neighbors Barb considered family, Randy and Gwen Maro and their children. Her beloved dog Molly, who never left her side.

The family would like to extend a big thank you to the staff at the University of Iowa Palliative Care Unit and the team for Compassus Hospice who made sure Barb was comfortable and cared for.

Memorials can be made in Barb’s name to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue and or Scott County Humane Society.
