Barbara was born November 21, 1941 in Maquoketa, IA to parents Thelma (Cain) and Harvey Roden. She grew up on the family farm, graduated from Elwood school, obtained her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Iowa in 1964 and began teaching business school at Moline Institute of Commerce (MIC) in the Quad Cities. Barbara married George Pratt Jr on April 17, 1966 in Elwood, IA. She took a pause from teaching at MIC in order to focus on raising her children. She began volunteering and eventually returned to work at Bettendorf Middle School performing clerical and secretarial duties for 15 years before retiring in 2004.
While growing up, Barbara liked to be outdoors befriending all the animals on the farm and assisting her father with farming chores. She loved music, singing in the church choir and doing duet performances with a friend, Steve Benton, at community gatherings. She was active in 4-H, a member of Order of Rainbow and a varsity basketball player in high school. In retirement, Barbara enjoyed gardening, being with family and having her beloved dogs around for it all. She volunteered a few years at the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Davenport and especially enjoyed the weekly prayer sessions with a group that became very close friends.
Those left to honor Barbara include her husband of 60 years, George Pratt Jr.; sons, George (Christy) Pratt III of Marion, IA, Brian Pratt of Bettendorf, IA, Curt (Robyn) Pratt of Redondo Beach, CA; grandchildren, Ian, Owen, Jacob, Ethan, Abby and Lily; and one sister, Dolores Weets of Lost Nation, IA.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Joyce Nowers and Donna Wolter.
