

Betty Jane Golden, 95, of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House loved by family and friends. Visitation is Friday, August 9th from 4 – 7 PM with an Order of the Eastern Star service starting at 7 PM. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 10 AM at Davenport Memorial Park, please arrive at Weerts Funeral Home at 9:30 AM to go to the cemetery. Memorials in Betty’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Order of the Eastern Star ESTARL Scholarship.
Betty was born in 1924 in Galesburg, Illinois to William and Elsie (Meharry) Johnson. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1941. Shortly after graduation, Betty married the love of her life, Burnie Golden, on September 27, 1941; he preceded her in death in 1999. She is a current member of Davenport Chapter #178 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matron of Trinity Chapter #541, and Past Mighty Chosen One Mohassan Caldron #2. She loved to spend time outdoors, boating, fishing, and camping with her family; Betty was also a 50+ year bowler. Most of all she loved being a wife and mother to her five daughters.
Betty is survived by her daughters Nancy (David) Decker, Moreno Valley CA; Mary Jane (Charles) Young, DeWitt; Charlene (Wendell) Shellabarger, Pleasant Hill; and Betty Jane Golden, Davenport; six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special family friend Genevieve Harms. She was preceded in death by her husband Burnie; daughter Susan Kay Rosenboom; her parents; and her brother William Johnson.
