Services will be held Saturday December 20, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Betty was born in Des Moines, IA, on March 12, 1921, to Arthur and Viola Blankenburg, the youngest of three children. She was married to William L. Williams on March 24, 1939. William passed away after enjoying 67 years of marriage with Betty, on May 20, 2006.
Betty worked for the Davenport School District for 32 years as head secretary at Jefferson Elementary School, retiring in 1989. She was also employed for 5 years as Secretary for Zion Lutheran Church and also helped establish the 1st blood bank at the old Mercy Hospital basement. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years, taught Sunday School for 32 years and was also a member of Elizabeth Circle. She was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church and confirmed there in 1934. She joined Zion Lutheran Church after her marriage to William.
She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren baby-sitting and making each feel special on their birthdays. She also enjoyed time spent with her church, secretary, HyVee friends and school children and teachers at Jefferson Elementary School. Her were the loves of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, stepfather, two sisters, Marion Mattusch and Fern Dodge, one daughter, Janice Henning and one granddaughter, Kris McGimpsey.
She is survived by two children, Philip (Celia) Williams and Phyllis (Walter) Humphrey, 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and 16 great great-grandchildren.
