Byron Schappaugh

Byron R. Schappaugh, 72, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away at his home on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 pm Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.

On March 21, 1959 Byron married Lois Free in Perry, Iowa. He was the owner of dbDonuts in Davenport from 1983-1996 and later worked for Country Club Coffee.

Survivors include his wife Lois, son Daniel and daughters Debra (Drake) Bishop and Doreen (Roger) McGartland of Quincy, Illinois; grandchildren: Mandy and Chad of Colorado, Adam, Amy, Alex, and Eric, of Davenport and Brandon (Casey) and Kensey of Quincy; great grandchildren: Saul, Ethan, Aliyah, and Daniel; brother-in-law Tom (Marilyn) Free of Perry, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis in 1983, his parents, Francis and Pearle Schappaugh, two brothers Robert and Richard, and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Don Sass.

Byron’s two favorite mottos were: “Perfectly, Wonderfully, Terribly Great” and “I was put in this world to make people laugh.”
