

Calvin R. “Smitty” Smith, 85, of Davenport, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home with his family by his side on January 28, 2016. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from noon until 2:00 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
He was born on August 14, 1930 in East Moline, IL; the son of Calvin and Hulda Mae (Karlen) Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Calvin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Jager on February 11, 1951.
He worked as a Superintendent for the City of Davenport, in the sewer department for thirty-three years and retired in 1993. After retirement, he enjoyed his time in Arizona for twenty years. His greatest joy was spending time with his children; grandchildren and his great grandchildren whom he loved so much. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and the Mohassan Grotto where he participated with the mini bikers for many years. Calvin also had a passion for golf.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara; his children: Richard Calvin Smith (Sue Britton); Nancy (Carl) Reicks, Diane Rosenberger and Marcy (Tom) Misfeldt; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brother, Carl Smith and a sister, Annabelle Mroczkowski.
In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by a daughter, Suanne Carney; great granddaughter, Carla; brother, David and sisters, Ruth, Helen and Marion.
