

Bettendorf, IA Private family services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 for Chuck Downs, 69, of Bettendorf. Family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary. Burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisting family with arrangements.Chuck passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 11, 2011, while working in his garage on his 1959 Corvette.Chuck Downs was born on September 30, 1941 in Jamestown, TN, the son of Wiley and Opal (Hines) Downs. He married Sandra Kay Richards on August 21, 1965 in Maquoketa, IA. He worked as a Control Center Operator at the John Deere World Headquarters Building in Moline for 30 years. He retired in 1997.Chuck was a member of the N.R.A., he enjoyed car shows and wood carving. He was a former member of the Quad Cities Cruisers and Midwest Corvette Club. Chuck received much recognition for the restoration he did on his 1959 Corvette and 1957 Chevy Bel Air.He served in the U.S. Army.Survivors include his wife, Sandy of Bettendorf, daughters; Carrie (Kelan) Coffin of Naperville, IL, Leslie (Tim) Downs Mullen of Cedar Rapids, IA, three grandchildren; Jake, Lily, Lucas, his mother; Opal of Florida, and sisters; Deanie Totto of Omaha, NE and Pat (Bill) Blair of Hartland, MI.He was preceded by his father, Wiley, and brother-in-law, George Totto.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.cunnick-collins.com
