I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Grandmaster Kim. He was my master instructor in the early 1990's and I earned my black belt under his watchful instruction. My condolences to his family.

My wife Mary and I were saddened to hear of the passing away of Master Kim.  I began studying with him in 1977 on Brady Street while I attended St. Ambrose College down the street.  He was very much a father type mentor during my years there.  In early medical practice he helped me through some rough times.  I am so indepted to him for his support through the years. I'm very Sad, upset, and even a little lost of spirit.  I'm Scotty Eddings Clark, Currently in the United Airforce and I remeber the times when I was practicing down in the dojo and how he would make his apperance to see how his students where doing. Everyone would lock up and try to show there best stuff just to impress him, but he was already glad.  Glad that the fact we came out to learn a bit of what was considered his Master piece.  The Art many practice world wide.  An I miss and Love him and those I meet there while attending to his School.  Could find a better one...Nor an even Greater man at that.

Miss Kim and family....I am sorry to hear of the loss of Grand Master Kim....he will be missed by all.  He changed many lives with Tae Kwon Do and the memories will live on in our hearts forever. I sm very sad to see Grand Master Kim leave.  He was my first teacher when I was 14yoa and sparked a lifelong study in the martial arts.  He will live on in his art, but will be missed in my heart.

I was deeply sadden to hear of the news of the passing of my Kuk Sa Nim, Grand Master Kim.

My family is deeply sorry for your loss; in my heart I feel the passing of a great man, teacher, husband, father, and friend to all who knew him.  I started Tae Kwon Do because of my son Andrew who is from Korea; I wanted to share something with him we could do together.  However, it has become more than that. Because of Grandmaster Kim, I am closer to my son, but also I have met many wonderful people who I respect and consider a friend.   God bless all your family.

First, to the family I offer my humble condolensces. Second, in 1987, I had the honor of being given my first black belt by Grandmaster Kim.  Since 1983 I had studied with Robert and Mary (two of his first students) in Milan, IL.  Although more than 400 black belts have been granted in the 30+ years of Grandmaster's tenure, I felt honored that at my first black belt  test, he asked myself and another of my classmates specifically to demonstrate a proper front kick, and then to demonstrate our flexibiltiy by doing various stretches.  He was a man of stern demeanor and unyielding rigor.  My 9 years in martial arts training shaped every aspect of my life, and set me on a course that led me to teach others.  Without the  beginnings that were given to me by Tae Kwon Do, I don't know where I would be now.  I certainly would not have the discipline or appreciation in life that I now possess.  I am not sad for my Grandmaster's passing, as he lived his life according to Tae Kwon Do's precepts.  I do lament the spirit of the age that passes with him.  No greater words were uttered by two of my teachers (Grandmaster Kim and Master Doshin So) than these: "A Living is what you are given.  Life is what you give." And "Live half of your life for yourself and half for others."  Those who would follow his in his steps, be mindful of everyday life and take nothing for granted.  Each moment presents another opportunity for abundance: either in success or failure.

I will terribly miss him.  I always drop by in his office to show my respect to him before proceeding to the training room.  It will be so sad to come in and not seeing him  around the dojang. 

He always noticed me when I did not show up in my class and will not miss asking me where I have been.  I will miss all the compliments I  get from him.  I know I have only been going to his dojang less than 3 years but he treat me nicely.  He was like a father to me.

Gam sah ham nee dah, Sabonim, Grand Master Chung E. Kim.  It's a great honor to be your student.  You will remain in our hearts. Rest in Peace.

Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit.  Though I never was an accomplished student of martial arts, I face each day thinking about which of these I will work on.  Chung Kim’s was a legacy worthy of anyone, a legacy that will live on in each one of us whose life he touched.  More than a master of martial arts, he was our friend.

My family is very sad to hear of the loss of this great man. God bless you and your family.

The highlight for my children at his tournament was not winning a trophy, but meeting Grandmaster Kim, and having thier names written in Korean on thier Doboks.

I've included a picture, on behalf of JVTKD Martial Arts, of a memorial to Grandmaster Kim that will remain in the front window of the school all year.

Mrs. Kim and family, I am deeply saddened by the loss of your husband and father.  He was my Tae Kwon-Do father and I loved him very much.  His influence sent me on my life's journey.  His guidance helped me to be the man I am today and his spirit helped me through all the trials and tribulations of my military career and I am forever grateful. I will never forget the things that Master Kim taught me...integrity, imdomitable spirit, kindness, and how to be a man of honor. I remember my first class with my brothers. We were very young and intimidated to say the least. I was very sad when my good friend Mike Castel called me about Master Kims death. With Respect and Honor, my thanks go out to Grand Master Chung Kim, for inspiring me to not give up on my dream of one day teaching  TKD .  After 1 year of teaching at JVTKD I was about to give up on my dream. I had no one's support in the martial arts world, and thought I was alone.  One day I picked up the phone and called the only person I could think of for some guidence. That person  told me to believe in myself and inspire others to do the same, Also to not worry about what others say or think, you'll get the hang of it. That person was Grand Master Kim. He inspired me to be the best instructor I could be. After a few years we won some Grand Championships and remember Grand Master Kim patting me on the back and saying " I think you got the hang of it ". Thank You for that it meant alot to me. My father, sister and myself all learned from and were inspired by Grandmaster Kim. He was always a great teacher as well as a great friend.  My heart is saddened to hear of his passing.  May his spirit live on in each and every person he touched.
