Corey M. Wakeland

Corey M. Wakeland, 41, of Davenport, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at his home, with his family at his side, after fighting a battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7pm at at The Runge Mortuary. Corey was born September 23, 1971 in Iowa City, IA; the son of Mark Wakeland and Donna (Poehls) Wakeland Shumaker. He had previously worked in maintenance for Scott County.

Corey loved life and always looked for the good in people. He enjoyed sharing his passion with his children including walking trails, bicycling, swimming, baseball and tennis. His children were the love of his life. His last request was that he wanted his shoes on so that he could journey out for a “new walk”. He prepared himself for God his entire life. Living good values and family were important to him. His children, Spencer & Alexa were the love of his life.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Spencer and Alexa, Davenport; his mother, Donna (Jeffrey) Shumaker Davenport; father, Mark, Texas; maternal grandmother, Lois Poehls, Davenport and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
