

David Elmer Marti, 69, of rural Donahue, IA passed away at his home on January 21, 2016 of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the mortuary. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County or USO of Illinois-Rock Island. Dave was born on June 7, 1946 in Clinton, IA, a son of Elmer and Lois (Johnson) Marti. He was formerly married to Dawn Healey. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam for two tours of duty as a CH-47 flight engineer and retired in 2004 after 32 years of service with the Iowa National Guard as a flight engineer and aircraft mechanic.
Dave enjoyed trips to “The Cabin” in Wisconsin in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his pets.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Shaylin and Ryan Girsch; step-daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Scott Ashby; four grandchildren, Cody and Nicole Ashby, Isla Marti and Charley Girsch; sisters, Jan Shirlaw and Ila Jean (Dean) Heimann and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nealon; brother, Dwight; brother-in-law, Louie Shirlaw and niece, Jamie Shirlaw.
