David A. Wymore was a man whose life was defined by love, laughter, and an unshakable devotion to his beloved wife, Sue Ann, and their family. He passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his wife, daughters, and loving family after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer.
Dave’s greatest joy began when he met Sue at a roller skating rink—a moment that sparked a 59-year love story filled with laughter, dancing, and unwavering devotion. Together, they created a life centered on family, partnership, and shared adventure. Whether at their cherished home in Park Rapids, Minnesota, wintering in South Padre Island, Texas, or traveling the country—especially their favorite trip to the northwest national parks—their bond was constant and enduring.
To his daughters, Lisa and Amy, Dave was far more than a father. He was a steady mentor and example, teaching the value of hard work, patience, and putting family first. He believed deeply that a loving home was life’s greatest accomplishment, and he lived that belief every day. His pride in his children and grandchildren was evident in everything he did.
Born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa, Dave was the son of Clark “Bud” Wymore and Marian Wymore. He graduated from William Penn College and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, stationed in Okinawa and El Paso, Texas. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career with Deere & Company, where he worked for 31 years before retiring in 2011.
Dave found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments—time spent with family and friends, holidays, game nights, and gatherings filled with laughter. He especially loved fishing and took great pride in patiently teaching others his skills in boating and angling. He also had a special love for teaching math to his children and grandchildren, always taking the time to guide and encourage them. He enjoyed bowling, golf, cheering on his favorite sports teams, dancing as part of the Double W Dance Team, traveling, meeting new people, enjoying seafood, and taking long walks on the beach.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Ann Wymore; his loving daughters, Lisa Potter (Joe) and Amy VanHoosier (Jay); his cherished grandchildren, Kristin Dossett (Blake), Kyle Potter (Bailey), Ryan VanHoosier (Liz), and Jenna VanHoosier; and his great-grandchildren: Jaedyn, Alexis, and Jaxson Dossett, and Jameson and Isabella Potter.
He is also survived by his siblings, Denny Wymore (Pam), Jolene Logid (Ron), Tom Wymore (Diana), and Cathy Ludwig (Lorin); sister-in-law Nancy Stevens (Gary); brothers-in-law Steve Mundell (Faith) and Mark Mundell (Cindy); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark “Bud” and Marian Wymore, and his in-laws, Robert and Barbara Mundell.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Thursday, April 16th at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Burial with full military honors will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery at approximately 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House and Faith First Community Church.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, and a special thank you to Pastor Heidi Y. Hulme of Faith First Community Church for their compassionate care and support.
