

Dean W. Kromphardt, 92, of Manteno, IL, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Manteno Veterans’ Home. Private family services will be held in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Dean was born July 27, 1921 in Peoria, IL, the son of Harold and Gladys (Wyman) Kromphardt. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was united in marriage to Sarah Wygoda on September 10, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY. She preceded him in death in May 2013.
Dean liked fishing and crossword puzzles. He also liked chess and taught his son to play. His son now continues Dean’s legacy by teaching chess to children throughout the Quad Cities area. Dean was a kind and gentle man who was very much loved.
He is survived by one son, Roger Kromphardt (Jill Green), Davenport; grandchildren, Andy (Kathleen) Kromphardt and Timothy (Keri) Kromphardt; great grandchild, Makayla Kromphardt; many extended family members; and good friend and former roommate, Joey Geselter.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; his parents; four sisters, Ida Mae, Carol, Ethel Rose, and Shirley; and infant son, Eric Lynn Kromphardt.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the Manteno Veterans’ Home for the care given to Dean while he was a resident there.
