Derald W. Montgomery

Derald W. Montgomery, 70, of Bettendorf, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Trinity Bettendorf. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Derald was born July 27, 1940 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Ervin and Leona (Hull) Montgomery. He was united in marriage to Janet Moore in 1992 in Bettendorf.

Derald retired after thirty years of service at John Deere Seeding in Moline. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Henry County Illinois for fifteen years and had served as Chief. He also served as President on the City of Ophiem Water Department with a total of fifteen years of service there. He was a member of Asbury Church and the UAW Local #434. Derald loved to help people and in his spare time loved to go to yard sales, camping, antiques, woodworking and just plain tinkering. His greatest joy though was spending time with his family, especially watching his son coach his football team and watching his grandkids play sports.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet, children: Tina Tidwell, Davenport; Bob (Cheryl) Rangel, Durant, IA; Vince Montgomery, Moline; Debbie (Jeff) Munn, LeClaire; Tracy Willard, Dallas, TX; Bill Rangel, Phoenix, AZ; Tony (Christy) Rangel, Houston, TX; Jared (Katie) Montgomery, Davenport; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Jolleen) Montgomery, Orion, IL and Mike Montgomery, Ophiem, I; sisters, Joan Phillis, Alpha, IL and Cindy (Dale) Jordan, Sherrard, IL and many special friends. His parents, infant son, Vincent and brothers, Cliff and David preceded him in death.
