The oldest of four children, she graduated from Davenport High School in 1949 and attended Drake University for one year, but Gib, her first and forever love, wanted her to come home. They were married on January 17, 1951, as Gib had been drafted and was heading to Korea.
Dolores worked for Mutual Engineering, her father’s company, for many years and then took a job with the Bendix Corporation, which later became Clifton Precision. She ultimately served as the Executive Secretary to the plant manager.
In addition to her full-time job, she also managed all the financial responsibilities of the family’s dental laboratory. She essentially worked two jobs, while maintaining an impeccable home and raising a daughter. It was hard to keep up with Dolores, and family members often called her the Energizer Bunny!
She and Gib loved to travel, dance, spent countless hours on their boat, The Quarter Sea, and thoroughly enjoyed their cottage on the Cedar River in Moscow, IA. She was also a wonderful mother, providing her daughter with many opportunities to learn about the world. Every summer included a vacation adventure, and before credit cards, they would often return home with the last bit of money in Dolores’s wallet.
In addition to her daughter, Dolores welcomed another young girl into her home. During Georgia’s senior year in high school, she became the host mom to her Greek daughter, Lena Gatzona. This was a life-changing gift to her family.
We will all miss her beautiful smile, her flashing brown eyes and her generosity. Per Dolores’s wishes, her family celebrated her life at a gathering of her immediate family on June 22, 2024.
Those left to cherish the memories include her daughter, Georgia Jecklin and husband Mike Beaderstadt, grandson Michael Jecklin, grandson Kyle Jecklin and wife Kathryn, granddaughter Sara Barron and wife Melissa, granddaughter Carrie Beaderstadt and husband Chris Kloberdanz, and grandson Andy Beaderstadt. She also delighted in her great-grandchildren, Liam Barron, Mae Barron, Etta Kloberdanz and Gilbert Jecklin. Other special people in her life included Jack and Deb Jecklin, Brazilian granddaughter Renata Pereira and many dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Gilbert Brown (1995), her brothers Paul and John Ehlers and sister Elizabeth Ehlers, sisters-in-law Patricia Peake and Linda Anderson and brother-in-law Chuck Willage.
Memorials may be made to: Zion Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 1216 W. 8th St., Davenport, IA 52802. Memo – memorial for Dolores Brown.
