Donald L. McKenrick

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM, Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at The Runge Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Thursday, July 23, 2015 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Don was born on February 18, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Donald and Darlene (Jones) McKenrick. His mother died due to complications during childbirth and he was raised by his aunt, Barbara (McKenrick) Jones, from the age of 3 days old.

Don was a Vietnam Veteran and played basketball for the US Army in Germany and was also a Golden Glove. In the 70’s he worked for Todd Shipyards in San Luis Abispo, CA and worked for Frank Sinatra as a bartender and tableside waiter in The CalNeva Lodge in Lake Tahoe. He married Cindy Foster on May 7, 1984 in Ottumwa, Iowa. For the last 10 years Don was the maintenance supervisor for the Center for Digestive Health, Gastroenterology Associates, P.C. in Bettendorf. Don never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. He was known for his infectious laugh and generous heart.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cindy; mother Barbara Hopkins, Davenport; father Donald R. McKenrick, Clinton; brother Michael McKenrick, Clinton; sister Kathleen McKenrick-Jaleel, CA; mother-in-law Leona Stock, LeClaire; sister-in-law Vickie (Rodney) Bates, LeClaire; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his dog Rush and hundreds of friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Darlene, sister Sandi and brother Randy, step father Harold “Hoppy” Hopkins, father-in-law Larry Foster, brother-in-law Mark.
