Donna Lea Dietz

Donna Lea (Gallatin) Dietz, 74, of Walcott, IA, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Kahl Home following a courageous battle against cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walcott Fire Association. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Donna Lea Gallatin was born on May 28, 1941 to James Leo and Donna Dorine (Han) in Davenport, IA. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1959. Donna married Dennis Hugo Dietz on September 3, 1960, at Grace United Methodist Church, Davenport, and shared 55 years of marriage and memories. They have three children and five grandchildren. Donna and Denny farmed near Walcott since marriage, raising all three children on the family farm, and continue to help with their sons’ operation today. Donna was especially fond of times spent with her family, and enjoyed spending her free time at her easel creating beautiful oil paintings. She is survived by husband, Denny; two sons, Doug (Peggy) and Don (Sara), both of Walcott, IA and daughter, Dana (Tim) Roehlk, Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by four grandsons, Ryan (Steffany) Dietz, LeClaire, Reed Dietz and Evan Dietz, both of Walcott, Cameron Roehlk, Cedar Rapids; and a granddaughter, Jeramie Roehlk, Cedar Rapids.

Her only sibling, a sister, Marcia (Gary) Wiebler, Davenport, was always at her side with Denny and her pillar of strength over the past year’s challenges. Donna was preceded in death by her parents. The Dietz family appreciates the many wonderful people who stopped by for a visit, sent her inspirational cards/gifts, or simply cared for Donna in their thoughts and prayers. We cannot thank Donna’s sister, Marcia, and neighbor/special friend, Sandy Liebbe, for their continual support and friendship. The family also extends gratitude to the staff of Genesis Hospice and The Kahl Home.
