

Dwight L. Marti, 82, of Park View, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, January 12, 2015 at the mortuary. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Heritage Wesleyan Church in Bettendorf. Online condolences can be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Dwight was born July 8, 1932 in Clinton, IA, son of Elmer and Lois (Johnson) Marti. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime farmer and mechanic in Donahue. He also was a corporate pilot and had his own plane. He collected and restored classic cars; his 1959 Buick Invicta was his favorite. He was active in his church and in the Native American Mission in South Dakota and enjoyed going to his grandson Dylan’s activities. His most enjoyable vacations were spent with family at “the cabin” in Barnes, WI. He was a part of the 2012 Honor Flight escorted by his son Layne. Those left to honor his memory are son, Layne (Alyssa), Park View; grandson, Dylan; sisters, Ila Jean (Dean) Heimann, CA, and Janice Shirlaw, Eldridge; brother, David Marti, Donahue; other family members, Jerrie Marti, SC, Robin (Jeff) Clendenin, OH, Brian (Holly) Dalrymple, TX, Jill (John) Kaltenbach, SC and their children and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Lewis Shirlaw; niece, Jamie Shirlaw and nephew, Nealon Marti.
