Edward Wilson McGuire

Bettendorf – Edward Wilson McGuire, 80 of Bettendorf, Iowa died Thursday September 16, 2010 at Genesis East. Per Edward’s request there will be no formal services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.Born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 8, 1930, to Bertha Lee and Eugene McGuire, he grew up with his brother, Roger McGuire at the family homestead, Happy Valley Farm, West Des Moines, Iowa. Edward Graduated from Roosevelt High School in1948, and entered into the US Air Force in 1951 for a four-year term. He then attended Drake University and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. Additionally he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.Edward’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident through his partnerships in: Wilson-Rogers, Inc., Stetson Building Products, Nebraska Builders Products, Builders Products of Austin, and Postal Services Inc.He was an avid reader and a compulsive spell checker. He loved the game of golf and the fellowship he experienced through his many friends at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club. He was affectionately known as “Fast Eddie”.Edward is survived by his loving wife, Berna McGuire, his son, Mike McGuire (Cathy Bennett), grandsons Keaton and Grayson, and daughter Susie Seitz (Jeff), grandchildren Andy, Adam and Lindsey.In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Roger McGuire.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Genesis Hospitals Foundation, 1227 E. Rusholme, Davenport, Iowa 52803.
