

Edwin T. Jansen, Sr., 82, of Monmouth, Iowa passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the mortuary. Inurnment with military honors will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice of Jackson County or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. He was born April 7, 1929 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Lucia Jansen. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. On January 23, 1954 he married LaVoy Ann Matson in Davenport. She preceded him in death on November 12, 1981. On June 28, 1986 he married Barbara J. Kaufman in Charles City, Iowa. They just celebrated their 25th Anniversary.
Mr. Jansen was employed by Alcoa, retiring after thirty years of service in 1979, as a supervisor in the Thermal Department. He later was a realtor in Maquoketa.
His memberships included the Maquoketa VFW and its Honor Guard, East Iron Hill Community Church in Maquoketa, Alcoa 25 Year and Retirees Clubs, NRA, the Child Advocacy Board in Jackson County, was chairman of the Advocacy Board for residents of Maquoketa Care, helped with Community Cupboard, and was a volunteer for Pioneer Cemetery and the Jackson County Welcome Center.
His hobbies included woodworking, leather crafting, playing guitar and singing, walking in the woods with his dog, “Freckles”, and most of all spending time with his family-kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara, children: Ed Jansen, Jr., Christie Rush, Tim (Diana) Jansen, Patrick (Cindy) Jansen, and Mary Jo (Duane) Eganhouse; stepchildren: Diane (Kent) Willett, Steven Kaufman, and Sheri Barr; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a loving 106 year old friend, Anna Kaufman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
