

Funeral services for Elise Brett, 92, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Brett passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Elise Ainsworth was born on December 10, 1920 in Ames, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Rowan) Ainsworth. She attended Junior and Senior High in Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1943, Elise achieved her Bachelors in Education from Northern Illinois University. From 1943 until 1949, she taught high school level Home Economics in Fulton, IL. Upon leaving Fulton, Elise began teaching at Smart Junior High in Davenport for the next 34 years until her retirement in 1983. She married William Brett in Chicago in 1953. He preceded her in death in 1989. Elise was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Alpha Eta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society (past President), Davenport Area Retired Teachers Association, and an honorary member of the Davenport Evening Lions Club and Lion Eves. She is survived by three Cousins: Louise Witherell of Milwaukee, WI, Jane Partridge of Lake Forest, IL, Bill Benton of Whittier, CA; two Nieces: Charlotte Brett of Rockford, IL, Judy (Fred) Fleener of Dickinson, ND; and very good Friends: Jessie Borgman of Bettendorf, Sharon (Michael) Cavallo of Eldridge, IA, Bill (Mary) Gillin of Bettendorf. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Quad City Symphony, or to the Humane Society of Scott County.
