

Elmer H. Lorenz, 100, of Davenport, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 pm at The Runge Mortuary and Tuesday from 10:00 am until the service at the church.. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church. Elmer was born January 31, 1911 in Davenport, the son of Henry and Florence (Klein) Lorenz. He was united in marriage to Helen E. Peeters in 1936 in Davenport; she preceded him in death on February 18, 1987.
Elmer left school to work at the broom factory in west Davenport and then worked at various places including: the Independent Baking Company, Rock Island Arsenal, the Democrat Newspaper - where he was in charge of carriers, and retired after twenty plus years from Eagle Signal Company where he served as an assistant purchasing agent. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was very active in various church committees. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and served as a leader for many years. He enjoyed photography, listening to music and playing his violin.
Those left to honor his memory include his children: Diane (James) Hall, Eldridge; David, Loveland, CO; grandsons: Kyle Hall and Kent (Tisha) Hall; great grandchildren: Sam, Maddy, Olivia and Benny Lee; sister-in-law, Olga Lorenz, Davenport, three nephews including Bob (Nancy) Lorenz and one niece.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Alyce Lorenz and brothers, Melvin and Herbert.
