The word of God was instilled in Esther at a young age and lived within her spirit throughout her adult life. Her Christian journey began at St. John’s Baptist Church in Buffalo, New York, pastored by Rev. McCarley. Esther served the Lord as an Usher, also becoming involved in an Ushering class, and later graduating as a Senior Usher. Esther had an immaculate work ethic; in which she demonstrated her character in the presence of her children, family, and friends. Esther gained employment at General Motors and retired after working for over 50 years. Her dedication to work was unblemished. She was respected and loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting her acquaintance. Esther lived a very full and satisfying life. She loved to get together with friends, travel, go on cruises, cook and gardening. Esther also loved bingo and going to the Casino. She had qualities equal to the energized bunny; she just kept going and going.
Esther will be greatly missed. Although our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our loved one, we can cherish and carry each lovable moment in our hearts.
Those left to cherish her loving memories include her sons, Shelton O. (Lucelly) Portee of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Ronald (Joan) Portee, Davenport, Iowa; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rosa Singley; daughter, Sandra McCloud, brother Frank Singley, sisters Mozell Bookman, and Earlis Livingston.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home. On Friday, September 13 from 10 to 11 a.m., a second visitation will take place at Third Missionary Baptist Church in Davenport with her funeral service to follow at 11 a.m.
